Film permits for streets or other public areas, both in Vienna and the regional capitals, can be obtained by contacting the Department of Transportation at the regional city administration. Permits are required when either vehicular or pedestrian traffic is obstructed in any way.

In Vienna, for example, a location inspection by the city adminstration, the producer, and, if necessary, the police and other relevant authorities is required for larger productions.

The fee for a permit depends on the extent of the shoot and the required traffic security. In Vienna, no permit is necessary for news reports or tourism promotion productions.

Designated street and public space locations
Austria’s two automobile clubs, ARBÖ and ÖAMTC, offer training centers for drivers at the former airport Aspern as well as in Teesdorf near Baden. Both locations are in the proximity of Vienna and popular for filming street scenes and stunts.
