Austria’s zoos and nature parks welcome production companies as long as the saftey of the animals is guaranteed. In some cases, screen credits are requested.
The Schönbrunn Zoo, which is situated in the Schönbrunn Palace Park in Vienna, is 17 hectars (42 acres) in size and offers a range of exotic locations: elephant enclosure, big cats enclosure, penguin enclosure, a Tyrolean farm house, ape house, aquarium and terrarium, mandrill pavilion, etc.
The Lainz Animal Park in Vienna covers an area of 2,500 hectars (6,175 acres) and houses exotic animals like Tarpane (a breed of early horse), early breeds of cattle, fallow deer and bighorn sheep which move freely throughout the park. Film projects should have a thematic connection with the animal park, the Hermesvilla (an elegant mansion on the property), or the history of Vienna. Certain other conditions apply as the Lainzer Tiergarten is a nature preserve. The ruggedly romantic ambience of the Feistritzklamm in Styria is home to a 40 hectars (99 acres) animal and a nature park, the Naturpark Herberstein, featuring animals, plants and trees from all continents.
The Hellbrunn Animal Park, outside the city of Salzburg, covers an area of 15 hectars (37 acres with enclosures for chamois, wolves, an African savannah with antelopes, zebras and hippopotami as well as water enclosures for fish otters can be found. Free flying griffon vultures are a special attraction.
